In 2015 we embarked to renovate this pioneer home, built approximately 1890 and 7 miles from its current location, into a cozy space with modern-day amenities while retaining its authentic appeal. It took us a year and a half to build a foundation, plumb and wire it, sand and scrub, build cabinetry from barn wood, oil and paint, build furniture, and locate period pieces that were suitable for the feel of the cabin. There is a claw foot tub with a shower handle and a large, private outdoor shower with hot and cold water. The cabin is surrounded by gardens. Stunning views of the nearby mountains are seen from within the cabin and from the front and back porches. While relaxing on the porch it is common to see tractors slowly roll down Center Street to the neighboring fields to the south. The sights and sounds of chickens, horses, cows, sheep and the multitude of bird and insect species fill your senses. The night skies are one of the darkest skies in the U.S. A multitude of hiking trails for all levels of experience are only minutes from the cabin. Escalante Petrified Forest State Park, 5 miles west of the cabin, offers opportunities for fishing, boating, swimming, picnicking and hiking. As our guests, you have access to the use of the cabin, relaxing in the gardens, and harvesting fruit or veggies for your meals when available. Great views to enjoy from the four patios in the evening in this quiet neighborhood. We just completed remodeling this pioneer home with brand new paint and flooring throughout! It is a home that has been in our family for 6 generations since it was built in 1905. We love to hike the nearby trails and appreciate your stay as the funds are going to restoring the home and to keeping it family owned. We have also recently purchased a brand new game table for guests to enjoy while in the home with Foosball, pool and air hockey! Lots of other board games and movies come ready. We have a clothes line outside clothes can be hung to dry and hangers above the washer to hang dry clothes. We also have a large portable air conditioner, as again this is an old pioneer home that was not build with AC. We do have an oil heating furnace which works great during the winter months. Message me what you're planning and I'll let you know the price. FAQ's PET POLICY: NO PETS ALLOWED EVER EVER EVER. I've never and I can't and won't make an exception so please don't ask. I have people that rent the house that are deathly allergic to pets and I have to promise them that there has never been a pet in the house. If I find out that you have a pet in the house, I will call the sheriff and have you escorted out of the house. I'm sorry that I have to be so blunt and hard core about this but peoples safety is on the line. WINTER CONSIDERATIONS: Between Mid November and the end of February there is a possibility of snow on the road up to the house. Even if the road is plowed, it's likely that a 4wd will be needed to get to the house, especially at night. A 4wd is highly recommended during this time. DISTANCE TO MAJOR AIRPORTS: The house is about 5 hours from either Salt Lake City airport or Las Vegas Airport.

You will have the time of your life on this vacation. House is located in Escalante National Monument area off the scenic highway 12 on Burr Trail. It is only 36 miles from Capitol Reef National Park and 23 miles from Hole-in-the-Rock Road. Hole-in-the-Rock Road is on the south edge of Boulder Mountain and cuts through Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument. It provides access to an amazing canyon network and some of the best slot hikes to be found on earth. Hiking, backpacking, biking and horseback riding are favorite activities in this area. The road also features Devil's Garden which is an Outstanding Natural Area with easy hiking. There is also Zebra slot canyon, often photographed for its amazing pink strips. The main canyon, called Coyote Gulch, offers towering high walls and superb narrows. Dry Fork Canyon is a major tributary to Coyote Gulch and serves as a corridor into this scenic area. The Dry Fork Trailhead is a beautiful, narrow canyon that offers several miles of hiking opportunity. Peek-A-Boo Gulch is a beautifully sculptured slot that runs for about half a mile to a wide, sandy wash. Spooky Gulch is the next opening as you hike down Dry Fork. It offers a great slot canyon hike through beautifully eroded Navajo sandstone. The canyon is deep and it constantly twists and bends, creating the eerie and haunting nature captured in its name. Spooky is the narrowest slot normal-sized adults can get through. Our house has 2 levels with 2 bedrooms and 2 full bathrooms. There is a king bed with the attached bathroom in the master suite upstairs and a queen bed with the guest bathroom in the second bedroom downstairs. Downstairs bedroom also has a pull out sofa. The second sleeper sofa is located in our TV room downstairs. Please note, there is no TV service or cable available. Guests are treated to all of the amenities they might need. Yes, we do have AC. Living room upstairs has sitting area with DVD library and variety of games and books. Dining area and the kitchen are adjacent to the living room. Entire upstairs level is wrapped around with our specious deck. Enjoy the views while preparing your meals on the grill.
